Over the years, we’ve found that the single best way to effectively reach college students is to help them. Solve a problem. Create an incentive. As the most unresponsive consumer to traditional media and advertising, college students need to see value in order to take an action. Helping college students is at the core of everything we do – from the products we create to the companies we work with.
Every Campus is Different
Looking around at what most marketers are doing today to reach college students, we see predominantly top-down, cookie cutter programs that ignore the simple fact that students at one school (like Arizona State University) are quite different from another (say the University of Chicago). From rules to culture, budget to demographics – every campus is unique and it is understanding those nuances that allows a program to produce the greatest value for students (and therefore impact).
Bottom-up
We believe that when it comes to navigating how to most effectively connect with students at a particular campus, some of the best ideas will come from the students themselves. At OCM, our focus in working with our handpicked Campus Ambassador teams is efficient collaboration and empowerment. Our ambassadors are charged to create and implement programs specific to their campus. It’s how we stay relevant and help our partners create most value for students at the local level.
Most significantly, we find this bottom-up approach creates ownership and accountability on behalf of our Ambassadors to be successful – because their ideas are actually a part of what’s being implemented.
